Germany beats Sweden 2-1

A dramatic stoppage-time goal from Toni Kroos gave holders Germany a 2-1 win over Sweden this morning to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup last 16.

Ola Toivonen scored the opening goal to put Sweden into the lead 1-nil at halftime.

Marco Reus then replied with a goal for Germany in the 48th minute to level the score margin at 1-all.

A draw would have left Germany needing Mexico to beat Sweden to have any hope of qualification, but Kroos’ goal has now put the world champions back in control of their own destiny.
