The Fiji Rugby Union’s Annual General Meeting in Nadi took an interesting turn today.

The Lautoka Rugby Union put forward a vote of no confidence on board members Mosese Taga, Dr Esther Williams and Filimone Vatuvoka which was passed at the AGM.

Replacing them are new board members John O’Connor, Tiko Matawalu and Waisea Luveniyali while Daniel Whippy remains a board member.

Also staying put is legal officer Carl Ngmoki-Cameron and Director Finance Napolioni Batimala.

Prime Ministers nominees Baljeet Singh (Sponsorship) Filimoni Waqabaca (Chairman) and Berlin Kafoa (Acting Chief Executive) will continue in their respective positions.

Another interesting twist today is the appointment of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama as the new FRU President.

The position was left vacant following the passing of the late Isikeli Tasere.

Due to vote of no confidence motion, other issues on the agenda will be addressed at an AGM proper yet to be confirmed.

Rugby House’s financials were not adopted while constitutional changes will also be discussed at the next meeting.

The interim FRU board is expected to meet on Monday to discuss a date for the AGM.

FBC Sports understands the meeting could be held during one of the June Test matches in Fiji.
