The Labasa Football team now has two football titles under its name.

With no word for celebrations yet, the side was crowned the 2019 Courts Inter District Champion last night, having earlier won the Battle of the Giants tournament.

The Babasiga Lions beat Suva 1-0 in the final to win the IDC title at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park.

But the victory didn’t come easily.

Captain and Veteran goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva says Suva put on a tough encounter – but they played their cards well.

Both teams remained scoreless at the end of fulltime as the winner had to be decided from extra-time.

“We had some game plans which was laid out by the Coach and the players knew what they were going to expect from Suva because during the semifinal when they played against Ba, we knew that they were going to come out firing and we just stuck to the game plan and we managed to score a goal in the first half of the extra spell.”

This is the first time Labasa has won the IDC title on Western soil.

The Babasiga Lions have won IDC thrice in Suva and once in Nausori.
