January 30, 2019 12:25 pm

Two young women footballers have been suspended following a positive drug test last weekend.

Speaking exclusively to FBC Sports, Fiji Football Association, Chief Executive Mohammed Yusuf says the players were caught off-guard as officials conducted random tests during the Women’s Inter District Championships.

Yusuf says drug use amongst footballers in Fiji is becoming a prevalent issue and they’re working on condemning those involved.

When asked by FBC Sports as to why these players have not been prosecuted under the law of the nation, Yusuf says they are following the policies set out by the Fiji FA.

“Under the process and rules the two players were immediately suspended but as per our policy, we can’t name the players. As they are under sanctioned because the two ladies under FA laws are given 30-days to undertake another test. Following this, if the players test negative they’ll continue to play football.”

Meanwhile, Yusuf says the association is ready to assist police if the force is willing to get involved.
