Henderson Eels beats Lautoka in OFC Champions League

Henderson Eels score one of their goals against Lautoka

The Henderson Eels defeated Lautoka 6-5 in the OFC Champions League this afternoon at Churchill Park.

Hudson Felani put the visitors into the lead 1-0 in the first five minutes of play.

Bong Kalo then replied with a goal for Lautoka to level the scoreline 1-all in the 23rd minute.

The Eels came back firing with Daniel Allan netting their third goal in the 27th minute with Raynick Laeta adding another goal two minutes later while Joses Nawo extended their lead 4-1 in the 34th minute.

Zibraaz Sahib missed out on a penalty on the 40th minute.

Lautoka made a comeback with Osea Vakatalesau scoring Lautoka’s second goal in the 42nd minute with Samuela Drudru making it 3-4 before the break.

Drudru then leveled the score for Lautoka in the 59th minute.

Lautoka continued their momentum with Kolinio Sivoki adding another goal to take them into the lead 5-4 in the 63rd minute.

The Eels then fought back in the last two minutes where Joses Nawo scored the winning goal.

Eels coach Eddie Marahare says the result is want they needed in the match.

After we lost in the first game we need a maximum point from this game and I’m happy that the boys and we worked really hard for this maximum point.

Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy says it was sad that they lost in the last minute of play.

“Unfortunately we lost in the final in the last minute. In the last 20 minutes we need to be very compact and very focus so we can win games.”

Lautoka will need to defeat AS Central Sport of Tahiti with a good goal margin on Saturday to qualify in the quarters.

Meanwhile, AS Central Sport hammered FC Morobe Wawens 7-0 earlier today.
