He also went on to dominate the Phoenix club awards and says it’s now time for a new challenge.

“I’m delighted to join ATK in the Hero ISL. I have taken my time to make what I feel is the right decision for me and my family, and ATK presents a great new opportunity for me in a new league.”

Krishna says as he makes his way to Kolkata, he is looking forward to working with the club and engaging with the fans and also promoting Fiji.

“140 years ago, our forefathers left Kolkata on board the Leonidas in search of new opportunities in Fiji. I feel like we’ve come a full circle as I head back to where it all began for them.”

ATK head coach, Antonio Lopez-Habas is excited about the new recruit.

“Roy Krishna is our first international signing of the season. He is a prolific striker with leadership skills under his belt. He will add attack and variety to the team and his confidence will give an edge. I am very happy to have him in ATK.”

Former France internationals like Robert Pires, David Trezeguet, Florent Malouda, Nicholas Anelka and Mikael Silvestre have all played in the ISL.

Other big names who have featured in the league include David James (England), Wes Brown (England), Cafu (Brazil), Roberto Carlos (Brazil) and Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgaria).
