Labasa wins BOG title after 22 years

Striker Siotame Kubu was the hero for Labasa in the Inkk Mobile BOG tournament final against Lautoka as his lone goal was enough to give them the victory.

Kubu who was also the former Lautoka striker last year, broke the hearts of the host’s when he scored in the 79th minute of play.

Following a counter-attack from Labasa, Kubu managed to chip the ball over Lautoka’s goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara to send the Babasiga Lions into a frenzy.

The Blues had a chance to equalise a few minutes later however they could not break Labasa’s defence.

Both teams also had equal opportunities in the first half to score however they could not find the back of the net.

Labasa last won the BOG title 22 years ago when they had hosted it.

The Babasiga Lions also walked away with the prize money of $17,000 while runners up Lautoka received $5,000.

Labasa’s Akuila Mataisuva won the Golden Glove award.

Siotame Kubu of Labasa was named the player of the tournament.

Labasa won the fair play team award.
