Football competition enters last day of group stage matches

The pool games during the men’s football competition at the Pacific Games comes to an end today in Papua New Guinea.

After today’s round of matches the semi-finalists for the Olympic qualifier and the medal competition will be known.

Tahiti and New Caledonia are not eligible for the Olympics, while the New Zealand side can’t win the Pacific Games gold.

New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu have already qualified for the Olympics playoffs last four, while either PNG or the Solomon Islands will join them.

In the medal round, Tahiti and New Caledonia are through.

Fiji, Vanuatu, PNG and the Solomons are in contention to join the French territories.

Other sports on today sees basketball, squash, touch rugby, swimming, weightlifting, tabel tennis and Va’a canoeing in action.
