FNU establishes Sports Development Centre

November 14, 2014 12:18 am

The Fiji National University has established a centre for Sports Development and Elite Performance which will be located out of Nasinu Campus from 2015.

FNU’s Dean for Humanities and Education, Dr Eci Nabalarua says this will be a good opportunity for students who want to pursue their career in their desired filed but also progress in the field of sports.

“The focus is really on leadership through excellence in scholarships and sports. It’s a dual pronged approach where the students come in and after fulfilling the minimum entry requirement for any program in the five colleges of FNU, they come in into that program of study but at the same time if they have a track record for elite sports performance and they are really at representative levels than they have that opportunity to add value to that sporting prowess.”

Dr Nabalarua adds the students selected for the program will be given scholarships to complete the course and FNU will be working closing with sporting bodies in the country to organise better programs for the students.

She adds students will have to apply to be part of the program as the details of it will be published in the local dailies in the coming weeks.
