Flying Fijians rue mistakes

September 19, 2015 12:57 am

Vodafone Flying Fijians coach, John McKee is ruing the team’s high error count in the 35-11 Rugby World Cup loss to England this morning.

Fiji conceded fewer penalties than England (10-11) but the hosts were more accurate in converting their opportunities into points.

One of Fiji’s errors saw halfback Nikola Matawalu sin-binned for disrupting England’s maul from an offside position and referee, Jaco Peyper awarded a penalty try to the Poms.

McKee says Fiji cannot repeat the same mistakes in its next pool match against Australia next week.

“We did very well for long periods of the game; we just made too many errors to be able to nail the advantage home. At the start of the game, the boys were under a lot of pressure with a penalty try from a driving maul and England scoring a try from a turnout in our line-out really cost us dearly.”

Fiji meets Australia at 3:45am next Thursday at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
