Flying Fijians on a roll to break losing streak

September 26, 2015 5:23 am

The Vodafone Flying Fijians have now lost five successive Rugby World Cup matches, against South Africa, Samoa and Wales in 2011 and against England and Australia in 2015.

However, the players know they are close to ending this run.

It will be third World Cup in succession Fiji and Wales meet in pool, with both having won one each.

Flying Fijians hooker Sunia Koto says, they have put in a lot of effort so far at the World Cup and it needs to be taken to another level to bring down the Welsh.

“The two games are both finished now and it’s past now but the coaches have come up with the areas that we need to improve on. In big test matches against tier one nations, we have to give our 100% and minimize our mistakes.
They will take any points that are on offer and hopefully we improve on our game and minimise our mistakes.”

With a bigger turnaround for this game, the Fijians know the importance of the match.

Memories are still fresh of that 66-0 drubbing Fiji got from the Dragons in 2011, but then again, they can take inspiration from that famous 2007 win.

Fiji plays Wales next Friday at 3.45am.

Meanwhile in a match played this morning, Argentina thumped Georgia 54-9.

Interesting matches are lined up for tomorrow morning with Italy playing Canada at 1.30am, South Africa face Samoa at 3.45am while England take on Wales at 7am.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV while live commentaries of Fiji’s matches will air on Radio Fiji One and Bula FM.
