September 18, 2015 10:31 pm

The Vodafone Flying Fijians will have to finish in the top three in their pool if they are to automatically qualify for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Just like the previous edition, World Rugby has announced that the top three from each pool in RWC 2015 qualify automatically.

Japan qualifies automatically for home tournament, while seven or eight teams will be determined via regional qualifiers.

There will be an exciting new repechage tournament to deliver the final qualifier.

There is a new structure in place with seven or eight places to be confirmed via the regional qualification process that will kick off in 2016 depending on Japan’s final standing.

A four-team repechage tournament will take place to determine the final qualification spot one year in advance of Japan 2019.

In 2011, Fiji finished outside the top three in its pool and had to play the Cook Islands for a place in this year’s World Cup.

Fiji lost its opening World Cup match against England 35-11 and will face Australia in its next match at 3:45am next Thursday at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

You can watch all World Cup matches live on FBC TV and live radio commentaries will air on Bula FM and Radio Fiji One.
