Flying Fijians have failed to beat Barbarians in 49 years

The Flying Fijians have failed to beat the Barbarians in their last three encounters.

Fiji will play the Barbarians for the fifth time this weekend.

The only time Fiji defeated the Barbarians was during their first meeting in 1970 where the Flying Fijians ran riot in the second half.

The scores were level 3 all at the break but Fiji crossed for six tries in the second half to win 29-9 with halfback Isimeli Batibasaga and hooker Atonio Racika standing out.

In 2002 Fiji was beaten by the Babas 24-12 while in 2013 the Flying Fijians lost 43-19.

Fiji’s biggest defeat was in 2016 when they were thrashed 40-7.

The Flying Fijians will take on the Barbarians at 3:30am on Sunday.
