The Flying Fijians came from behind to beat Tonga 29-17 and finish their Pacific Nations Cup campaign on a high in Lautoka this afternoon.

Fullback, Metuisela Talebula grabbed two superb breakaway tries in each half including five points from the boot.

Coach Inoke Male says the local players have a lot to be commended for.

“That’s what we did earlier this year; now the boys can see what we’ve done from the first PNC Games to the last two games. Fiji had more possession where the backline performed to their very best. Lots of local players showed their talents and put up well in the game."

Team-mates, Josefa Domolailai and Maikeli Mocetadra also dotted down to given Fiji a bonus point win and second place in the PNC ahead of Japan and Tonga.

The Ikale Tahi led 9-7 at halftime through penalty goals from flyhalf, Kurt Morath.

The match saw huge reshuffles within the Flying Fijians line-up.

In substituting Vereniki Goneva, halfback, Nikola Matawalu was placed at centre while Kelemedi Bola came off the bench to fill in at scrumhalf.

Next up for Inoke Male and his men is the Punjas Pacific Series in October before the tour to Europe.
