The Telecom Fijiana side is being hailed for setting a precedent for women to compete in sports in the Oceania region.
Oceania Game Changers Director, Kylie Bytes made the statement during a press conference at the Oceania Rugby training session yesterday.
Bytes says the team’s achievement in qualifying for the Rio Olympic Games will be a source of motivation to women in the Pacific.
“Fiji is leading the way, the fact that Fijiana will be the first women’s team to represent and Pacific Island at the Olympic is a huge phase and I think the entire pacific is getting behind them and is really excited to watch what they’ll do.”
Bytes is one of the invited guest speakers in the Oceania Rugby Development Workshop for regional coaches and managers at Tanoa International Airport in Nadi.
