Fijian athletes preparing for international competition to undergo training in China

China has agreed to train Fijian athletes who are preparing for regional and international competition at its High Performance training facilities.

And at the same time the Chinese government will provide scholarship to officials who wish to enhance their career in sports administration, sport medicine and sports science.

The offer was made to Youth & Sports Minister Parveen Bala who is on an official visit to Beijing.

During the bilateral meeting a number of issues were discussed.

Minister Bala says both countries will benefit the initiative.

“Exchange programs for the youth to learn Rugby 7s for both Men and Women from China to Fiji, and in return Fiji athletes and officials of targeted sports like table tennis, badminton, swimming and track and field events and water sports like swimming”.

China Rugby Union has also committed to sponsor 20 rugby players and coaches to study in China and also assist in rugby development at club level.

China Rugby has also committed to fund Fiji rugby for development purposes.
