The Vodafone Fiji Under-19 football side is now gearing up for its toughest test on its New Zealand tour, with matches against the Junior All Whites coming up.

Fiji takes on the New Zealand Under-20 side on Sunday and Tuesday before flying back home to prepare for the World Cup play-offs.

The Ravinesh Kumar coached side last night beat Western Springs 5-2 and the mentor says slowly but surely the team is hitting the right notes.

“The boys have gained a lot of confidence in playing the last four games. And it was a very good test for the boys playing under pressure with some good teams. Like the last team we played was Western Springs and before that was Metro club. They gave us a good run and very similar to what the New Zealand Under-20 will be playing. Quite a few players from the New Zealand squad and the All Whites were there and the captain of the last Under-23 was there. So they gave us a good run but the boys maintained their performance and confidence level and have done well so far.”

Rewa’s Iosefo Verevou and Ba youngster Samuela Nabenia got a brace each last night, while Setareki Hughes of Rewa got the other goal.

The Fijian side takes on their New Zealand counterparts on Sunday at 5pm
