The Vodafone Fiji Under-19 football side is banking on its defenders to ensure the national team performs at the World Cup play-offs.

National coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti says the defenders, most of whom played last year for the side, have matured in the game.

“We are happy with the defence. When you look at Kolinio (Sivoki) and Jale (Dreloa) playing for Suva, they have been superb. Pranil (Naidu) has been switching from one level to another very quickly. We are very happy with the players coming in for the first time, like Grish (Prasad). So generally, we are very happy with everyone as they are playing to our expectations.”

Meanwhile, Fiji opens it campaign at the play-offs against American Samoa at 2.30pm on Friday week.
