Fiji U18 to face stiff competition at YCG

August 18, 2015 6:03 pm

National 7s coach, Ben Ryan says the Fiji under 18 side will face some stiff competition in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa next month.

Ryan will mentor the youngsters during the competition against top teams such as England, South Africa, Australia as well as the hosts.

“Only four teams will make the play-off games in the semi-final so it’s a big challenge for our guys because we’re coming together on the back of no preparation rally. Very different to the Pacific Games because we’ve got four quality sides that we’ve got to play against so a huge challenge for Fiji.”

Ryan coached the England under 18 side to the gold medal in the last Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011.

The next edition of the Games will be held in Apia on September 5th to the 11th.
