The Fiji Under-18 girls rugby side is gearing up for tough outing in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa this weekend.
This is the first time that Fiji will be sending a women’s team to the meet and coach, Iliesa Tanivula believes it will be a good experience for the players, who are competing in the sport for the first time.
“Most of them play netball, hockey and a few other sports. They’ve got that agility and athleticism in them and it’s just a matter of bringing them in and showing the skills set that is needed in rugby. The response has been good from them and it’s something that we are all learning of each other.”
The Fiji Under-18 women’s and men’s rugby sides will join the rest of the 47-member Team Fiji contingent which will depart the country on Friday for Samoa.
The Commonwealth Youth Games will open on Saturday at Apia Stadium.
