Fiji will be competing in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan.

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee CEO, Lorraine Mar confirmed this at a press conference today after returning from an Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly (OCA) last week.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between OCA and Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC), allowing Oceania members to compete in the games.
National sporting federations which have confirmed an expression of interest for the meet include athletics, basketball, billiards and snooker, chess, swimming and weightlifting and Mar says the Asian Indoor Games will be the perfect build-up to other major events.

“There’s the Pacific Mini Games later in the year, in 2017 and 2018 is the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. So those sporting federations that will be looking at Gold Coast, this is an excellent platform for them. Then of course, 2020 is the Olympic Games in Japan.”
