Fiji to meet Samoa in Cup quarters

March 31, 2012 7:58 am

A 14-7 loss to England will see Fiji take on Samoa in the Cup quarter-finals of the Tokyo 7s on Sunday.

Missed tackles and simple errors let Alivereti Dere’s men down as England opened the account through a try in the first half after Tom Mitchell beat four white jerseys to score under the posts.

Immediately after the breather, England speedster, Dan Norton put the peddle to the metal to beat three defenders to put them up 14-0.

Fiji soon came right after some quick ball movement and support play for Metuisela Talebula to dot down their only try in the match.

A two tries went begging for Fiji – the first from a sketchy back pass from Nikola Matawalu as he was offloading to Isikeli Vuruna.

Vuruna put on some pace in final play, however lost the ball from a sneaky England tackle.

Cup quarterfinal matches will now see England taking on South Africa, Wales versus Australia, Samoa versus Fiji and New Zealand versus Argentina.

The bowl quarter-finals is between France and Scotland, Russia takes on Hong Kong, it’s Portugal versus Japan and the United States versus Kenya.
