Fiji to face PNG in World League 2nd round play-off

The Fiji men’s and women’s hockey sides will take on Papua New Guinea for a spot in the World League round two competitions next year.

The first round of the World League is being held concurrently with the Oceania Pacific Cup Championship at the National Hockey League in Suva and Fiji only needs to beat PNG to progress to the second round.

Oceania Hockey Federation development manager Gill Gemming says with the stakes at an all-time high, both matches will be an exciting high-tempo fixture.

“It’s pleasing to see that the draw has worked out well because tonight, in the last two games, Papua New Guinea- who are seeded two will take on Fiji. It will really be the gold medal play-off so we are really excited about what’s coming up today.”

The second round of the men’s World League will be held in Singapore from January 17th -24th while the second round of the women’s World League will be held on March 7th-15th in India.

The Fiji men’s side is currently taking on PNG at the National Hockey Centre and the two countries will face-off again in the women’s division at 6:30pm.
