Fiji to face Australia in Cup quarters in Dubai

The Vodafone Fiji 7’s side will play Henry Speights Australia in the Cup Quarter-finals of the Dubai 7’s today.

Fiji finished undefeated in its pool play but not without a scare from Japan.

Fiji opened their campaign on a high with a 63-14 drubbing of Canada.

The Ben Ryan coached side had to rely on a last gasp try to Savenaca Rawaca to clinch a 21-17 win over Japan before overcoming Argentina 28-nil in their last pool match.

South Africa and England were the other teams who remained unbeaten after Day One.

Day One belonged to Mike Friday’s USA who recorded a first-ever 14-12 win over New Zealand.

Fiji takes on Australia at 8pm tonight after which New Zealand plays Samoa at 8.22pm.
England plays Argentina at 8.44pm while in the last quarter final at 9.06pm South Africa plays USA.

The Bowl quarter-finals begin at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, the TFL Fijiana side finished 7th in the Women’s competition of the Dubai 7’s.

After losing out in the Cup quarter finals to France 19-12, Fiji then fell in the Plate semi-finals losing to New Zealand 33-14.

The Fijians bounced back in the 7th place playoff to defeat Spain 31-14.
