The Fiji Sports Council has announced Peter Rankin as the master planner for the $100 million new sporting development that will be carried out soon in Laucala Bay.
Rankin – who designed the newly Albert Park – has been given 3 months to draft a plan for the 15 acres of land set aside for the project,
Fiji Sports Commission Chairman Peter Mazey says it will include a hotel and multi-purpose complex along with new sporting facilities and a sports academy.
Mazey says the council has identified areas in Laucala for the new development.
With a hotel and multi-purpose complex centered in one area, it will provide convenience for international teams.
_“We see it in a Super Rugby tournament where you cannot get an accommodation. For the council to be able to offer better facilities we need to commercialize”.
He says Suva needs more accommodation to meet the high demand in sports tourism.
Fiji Sports Council Chief Executive Litiana Loabuka says there’s a real need for the development.
The Constructions of the multi-purpose sports complex in Laucala will commence once the final plan is approved.
