Fiji Sports Commission identifies the need of major improvement.

The Development and up-skilling of community coaches and referees was an area the Fiji Sports Commission had identified as in need of major improvement.

During their 2016 Annual Report submission to the Standing Committee on Social Affairs yesterday, FSC Chair Peter Mazey says the introduction of its “Train a Trainer Program” is helping solve the issu

“In training the trainer we found out that there’s a big gap in their communities and in the sports in the country. We don’t have coaches and we don’t have referees. We had a lot of athletes but nobody to coach them”

Mazey says the “train the trainer program” accredits about 30 people in each area they visit.

He says coaches will be accredited as level two and three coaches in rugby and other sports.

The Commission have started the program in the Central division and will expand it to other parts of the country.
