Fiji poses threat to Oceania teams

Team Fiji is doing wonders on the tracks at Barlow Park in Cairns in the Oceania Regional Championships.

Yesterday they managed five golds and a silver in what was day two of competition.

This brings their total medal tally to 9 golds, two silvers and one bronze.
Mereseini Naidau got her second gold medal yesterday, running her second race in the U20 female 5000m with a time of 19:42s.

Other gold medal winners are Kemueli Waqa in the U20’s 400m, Suliana Gusuivalu’s open 400m, Isikeli Waqas high jump in the U20 mens grade and the womens open grade 4×100m relay.

Ratu Tira Narara had to settle for silver in the open mens 400m behind NZ’s Liam Mitchell.

Team manager Litia Senibulu says she is overwhelmed with the young team’s performance.

“It’s a big bonus for the team overall as we have another day of competition tomorrow and i just have to thank the athletes the boys and the girls doing all their best competing with the other oceania countries here.”

Fiji falls in the Eastern Division with New Zealand, Tonga and Samoa while the Western Division has Australia, PNG, Vanuatu, Marshall Islands’, Guam and Northern Australia.
