Fiji Olympians put on a challenge

Fiji judoka, Josateki Naulu fought a gruelling five full minutes against World number two, Srdjan Mrvaljevic of Montenegro in the 81kg weight category.

The fight was exciting with both judokas finding difficulty in revealing a weak point.

In the end, Naulu lost out on combined scores through penalties, which in Judo terms, is “lost by Yuko”.

Mrvaljevic was the silver medallist in last year’s World Judo Championioship and was placed in eighth place at the Beijing Olympics.

In swimming, Paul Elaisa impoved his personal best (previous 55.32secs) and finished third in the 100m Freestyle heats after clocking a time of 54.87secs.

Elaisa finished in 47th position out of 56 swimmers.

Weightlifitngs, Maria Liku reached her target to finish in eighth place in the women’s 63kg category.

Her total lift was 183kgs – Liku’s ranking is so far the best placing for any Fiji Olympian.

Archer Robert Elder shot against the World number 2 seed, Korean, Bumin Kim.

Excitement built for the 63rd ranked, Elder who received a lot of crowd support during the event.

The elimination rounds continue as Elder chases an improvement in rankings.
