Fiji was a changed side in the second spell as Krishna came on.

Fiji did have chances to win the game but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities they had.

Coach Christophe Gamel was pleased with the performance of his team.

“At halftime I changed the plan and I give them more responsibility because they have to take their responsibility and these boys are not usual to take responsibility on the field and you have seen three occasions they prefer to kick.”

New Caledonia coach Thierry Sardo was impressed with Fiji’s performance as well.

“Finish with ten men was difficult but I think my team played better when we play and Fiji was good where Gamel reacted a lot and I see the performance of the team.”

Meanwhile, Setareki Hughes is ruled out of the second leg after dislocating his elbow today.

Fiji will meet New Caledonia in the second round on Sunday.
