Fiji Weightlifting Coach Henry Elder says Fiji has the potential to do extremely well in the World Junior Weightlifting Championship which starts next month.

Elder says despite the lack of World Class weightlifting facility in the country, most of the lifters have proven their worth to represent Fiji.

Elder says one lifter in particular, Adi Mekula Wini of Naitasiri who will be participating in the 59kg just started weightlifting in February.

Elder says despite the short span of time given to Mekula, she has managed to deliver good results.

“We’ve got this talented girl and she’ll probably will do well in Weightlifting and sure enough on the first day she attempted a snatch and a clean and jerk and she did well. She’s been drafted in and we’re working with her and she’s come a long way.”

The World Junior Weightlifting Championship will run through June 1st to June 8th.
