Fiji fall to fifth position on medal tally

Team Fiji is now in fifth position on the medal tally at the Pacific Games currently on in Papua New Guinea.

Fiji has four gold, five silver and eight bronze medals after completion of day four last night.

Tahiti which made a clean sweep in the Va’a canoeing yesterday leads with 12 gold, four silver and one bronze.

PNG is second on 10 gold, six silver and five bronze, while Australia has five gold, 11 silver and three bronze.

New Caledonia is fourth on five gold, four silver and five bronze.

Last night during the swimming finals, Fiji failed to win a single gold medal.

In the women’s 100m freestyle, Matelita Buadromo, won silver behind winner, Emma Terebo of New Caledonia.

Carloine Puamau was third with a bronze medal.

Buadromo also picked up a silver medal in the 400m individual medley, while the women’s team won a silver in the 4X100 freestyle relay.

Also last night, the women’s basketball team beat the Solomon Islands 93-53.

The women’s football side was taught a lesson by PNG, 5-1.
