Fiji faces Japan in PNC opener

The much talked about rematch between Fiji and Samoa takes place on June 10 during the annual Pacific Nations Cup rugby tournament in Japan.

Fiji was thumped 27-7 by Samoa at the World Cup last year, which ended the Flying Fijians dreams of progressing further in the tournament.

The PNC draws released by the International Rugby Board today sees the two teams meet for the first time since the brutal encounter in Auckland and a lot has changed since than.

Fiji coach Sam Domoni was fired after the World Cup debacle, while Samoa also had issues with its players and management.

Five of the six matches will be played in Japan with double-headers featuring in the first two rounds of matches giving fans the opportunity to see the stars from all four teams.

Fiji’s first match is against the hosts on June 5 at 11.10pm (Fiji time) before taking on Samoa.

The last match against Tonga is at Lautoka’s Churchill Park on June 23 at .3.40pm.
