The Fiji FUTSAL officials have welcomed the decision by the Fiji Football Association to separate the code from 11-a-side football in the country.

This as close to 40 players attended the first trials for national selection in Suva last night.

National Futsal coach Intiaz Khan says this will help players in the long run.

“To separate futsal from football, for us, it makes it easier because in the past years we have seen that when we got players to represent the country in futsal, there were a lot of hindrance from district associations as they held their players back. The priority was football as it is more popular in Fiji so that is why we have decided that we need deal with the grassroots players.”

The next trials will be held at the national Hockey Centre in Suva next Thursday.

The selected players will prepare for the World Cup qualifiers to be held in Tahiti next year.
