Fiji FA holds awards night for national league

The Fiji Football Association held its Annual Vodafone Premier League awards function last night.

Lautoka and Ba took out majority of the awards in the main division.

The Blues received $18,000 for winning the league, while Dave Radrigai scooped the Golden Ball(Best Player) award.

Lautoka President, Abdul Kadar says, the money received will be shared amongst players.

“The $18,000 that we have been given will be given to the players. They have worked hard for this and we will distribute it to them as they deserve it.”

Radigai thanked the support from everyone that helped him win the award.

“Firstly my team. Without them this would not have been possible. The officials as well and most importantly my family, who have been supporting me through my football career.”

Ba finished second in the league and was awarded with the Fair Team award.

Men in Black’s Saula Waqa took out the Golden Boot award for scoring 10 goals in the competition.

Awards in the the senior and youth division were also given out.

Meanwhile, for the first time, the Fiji Fa legends were also acknowledged at the function.

Players who contributed to the growth of football in the country were rewarded for their efforts.

Jimmy Okete, who scored the lone goal in Fiji’s historic 1-nil win over Australia in 1977 shared the moments of 40-years-ago.

“It was an exciting day. It was a big challenge for us but we played as a team and we achieved the goal which was to beat Australia.”

Meanwhile, in the Courts Inter-District Championship semi-finals at Lautoka’s Churchill Park today, the Blues play Rewa at 3pm while at 5pm, Ba battles Suva.
