Fiji contests for second spot as Ryan backs McKee

May 5, 2014 12:38 am

The Vodafone Fiji sevens team has a chance to finish second in the World Sevens Series when it concludes in England this weekend.

Fiji is currently in third place on 129 points, 10 behind second placed South Africa, while New Zealand is way ahead with 158 in first place.

A strong outing by Ben Ryan’s men coupled with a South Africa demise could see Fiji notch the second place.

Fiji faces Australia, Spain and Japan in pool play at the London 7s.

The side takes on Spain at 8.44pm on Saturday, followed by the match against Japan at 11.50pm.

The last pool game against Australia is at 3.38am on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ryan has welcomed the announcement of John McKee as the new Flying Fijians coach, saying they will be working together closely.

“I think it is a fabulous appointment. I have known about his coaching for a long time in both France and England when we have gone head to head as well in our clubs back in England when we were both coaching over there. Terrific operator and understands the game very well and he has been in Fiji almost the same amount of time that I have and starting to understand everything else around it.”

McKee was appointed as the Flying Fijians head coach last Friday.
