Fiji Bati trails at 26-19 against PNG Kumuls

The Vodafone Fiji Bati were beaten by the Papua New Guinea side 26-14 in the Pacific Test match at Campbelltown Stadium in Sydney, Australia.

PNG ran in four tries, two from debutant Junior Rau.

Tyrone Phillips scored the first try for Fiji.

PNG led 26-4 at halftime.

NRL.com reports, Fiji was denied two tries early in the second half but finally hit their groove with Jarryd Hayne kicking through for Marcelo Montoya to dive over in the left corner.

Hayne also had a hand in the next try 15 minutes later to Suliasi Vunivalu which narrowed the gap.

It was the Kumuls’ second consecutive win over the Bati side after a two-point victory last year.

Fiji’s Akuila Uate was injured earlier in the match.

Meanwhile, Tonga overpowered Samoa 38-22.
