November 4, 2015 11:03 pm

*The Vodafone Fiji 7s training squad will make a special appearance in Labasa next week as part of its outreach program and to compete in the Macuata Provincial Youth 7s tournament.(

Coach Ben Ryan says it will give the 26-member squad a chance to meet the fans who rarely get to see the players up close.

“Busy all around but delighted to have the opportunity, part of our plans, last year it was Ovalau; this year we’re in Labasa. I hope we get some more trips to the North and to the West. There is plans to have a competition in the west before the Olympics. As hopefully as everyone’s seen, we don’t stick ourselves in the Suva corridor, we try to travel.”

The Macuata Provincial 7s tournament serves as a trial for Ryan, who will reduce the squad from 26 to 16 players next Friday.

The trimmed squad will then prepare for the opening leg of the World Sevens Series in Dubai next month.

Meanwhile the Macuata 7s tournament will be held next Wednesday and Thursday at Subrail Park in Labasa.
