Fiji 7s learns from SA loss

February 3, 2016 12:04 am

The Cup semi-final loss to South Africa in the Wellington 7s last week could count as a blessing in disguise, according to Vodafone Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan.

The soft-spoken mentor says the 31-0 thrashing at the hands of the Blitzbokke is a wake-up call to the side to switch up their game-plan ahead of the Sydney 7s this weekend.

“We got some good lessons on things the boys need to solve on the hoof in games. I’m glad it happened this early in the season. You can imagine if it happened at the Olympic Games semi-final, it would be too late to do anything about it. South Africa have shown what they would like to do to beat us and we’ve got to react. I think we’ve got the ammunition and the skill set.”
