Fifita commits to Tonga Rugby League

March 31, 2018 11:15 pm

Cronulla Sharks enforcer Andrew Fifita has turned his back on the Holden State of Origin and will now commit the Island nation Tonga.

Fifita has followed the likes of Jason Taumalolo to rule himself out of the Australian and NSW Blues contention.

According to nrl.com, Fifita said he and Taumalolo had reaffirmed their commitment to the Mata Ma’u during a meeting with Tonga coach Kristian Woolf in North Queensland before last month’s round-one clash between the Sharks and the North Queensland Cowboys.

Fifita says Sydney Rooster forward Sio Siua Taukieaho, Paramatta Eels pair Michael Jennings and Manu Ma’u had also pledged their allegiance to Tonga along with Tevita Pangai Junior of Brisbane Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Manly Sea Eagles defeated Raiders 32-16, the Warriors thumped Roosters 30-6 while Sharks beat Storm 14-4.

In other matches the Broncos will play Titans at 8.30 pm tonight, while the delay coverage of Dragons vs Knights will be at 10.30 pm.
