Expectations high for rural schools in zone meet

There are high expectations for rural schools competing in the Suva Zone One athletics meet at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Meet co-ordinator, Salote Maiwiriwiri says certain students revealed their talent last year in the long distance events and are expected to heat up the intermediate grades.

“We are excited with our rural schools like Wainimakutu and Namosi Secondary school they both gained gold and silver with our first event 3,000m two weeks ago and we also have in addition Kalabu and Armadiya College".

A highlight in the intermediate boys division is International Secondary school runner, Kapil Jekishan who stood out in the 100-metre and 200m races last year.

Ratu Sukuna Memorial, Dudley High and Nasinu Secondary are considered the top guns out of the 21 schools participating in the Suva Zone One meet.

Meanwhile, the Triple N Zone meet will be held on Wednesday.
