July 19, 2012 6:59 pm

Navua has suffered a setback days before the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants as veteran defender and captain Pene Erenio has left the district.

Navua president Gopal Naidu confirms Erenio’s return to his home district in Savusavu.

Naidu says Erenio had to return home due to personal commitments and Navua respects that.

He adds Navua was ready to have Erenio stay in Savusavu but represent Navua during tournaments but the national defender had opted to play at home and eventually retire his career there.

Erenio started his soccer career in Savusavu.

Despite the setback, there is good news.

Australia based marksman Esala Ali will feature for Navua in their first game against Lautoka.

That will be good for us, like he is a former player who has shown interest to come and play BOG for his old district at his own expense. and we already have his ITC and we are going to pay his transfer fees to Fiji FA. Hopefully he is with us on Friday and will travel to Labasa with us on Saturday, so that will be a good start for us in BOG against Lautoka.

BOG starts this Sunday with Suva to feature in the first game against Nadi.

Ba and Nadroga follow, then its Navua taking on Lautoka and the final match will be between hosts Labasa and Rewa.
