England beat Sweden to reach semi-finals

England marched into their first World Cup semi-final for 28 years after headed goals by Harry Maguire and Dele Alli gave them a deserved 2-0 win over a disappointing Sweden in the quarter-finals this morning.

Maguire opened the scoring in the 30th minute at the Samara Arena.

Aljazeera reports, Alli then doubled the lead after the break as Gareth Southgate’s young squad continued to defy dampened pre-tournament expectations with another confident display.

Belgium earlier defeated Brazil 2-1 in the second quarterfinal yesterday while France beat Uruguay 2-nil.

Meanwhile, in the first semi-final will see Belgium taking on France at 6am next Wednesday.

England will meet the winner of the last quarter-final match between Russia and Croatia in the second semi-final at 6am next Thursday.

The final is scheduled on the 16th of this month at 3am.
