Local rugby league players will have a better shot in making the cut for the Vodafone Fiji Bati side to face Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Test Double Header in Australia.
Fiji National Rugby League CEO, Timoci Naleba says the season has started earlier this year to get the local player’s into shape to fight for a spot in the team which is expected to be dominated by players who feature in the NRL competition in Australia.
“The season normally starts in April so we cannot justify having local boys to play in the Bati if the season just started in April and the following month is the match. So that’s why we have started early. In January we started the Nines, and February we are having our pre-season, late March we will start our season proper.”
The Fiji Bati side will take on the PNG Kumuls in the first match of the Pacific Test Double Header series on May 7th in Parramatta, Australia.
