Divisional meets for Chow Games

October 31, 2012 11:59 pm

The Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association’s FMF Chow Games is gearing up for its first Divisional Championships since its 25 years of existence.

The idea came up after the closure of the National Stadium because of repairs.

Association Secretary Patrick Bower says this allows for more participation and encourages more youngsters to take up the sport.

“Whilst we have had competitions, we’ve looked at the games as a friendly rivalry. There’s a lot of serious competitions that can be held at secondary levels but we’ve looked at our games as an opportunity for the children to take their skills further, meet at the national finals and go back home the better for it and better able to serve their communities as later senior citizens of our country.”

FMF Ltd presented a $60,000 sponsorship to the association this morning.

The FMF Chow Games will be held in three different divisions around the country.

SGS ground hosts the Central Division, while Lautoka’s Churchill Park will be the venue for the west and Subrail Park hosts the Northern Division on the 16th and 17th of this month.
