Failure to follow transfer rules and regulations has seen Suva rugby club – Covenant Brothers lose their place in the Escott Shield semi-finals.

The team surprised Army last weekend in the quarter-finals winning, 21-18 with a 60-metre penalty.

A protest hearing last night found that Covenant Brothers had fielded an unregistered player and they were disqualified by the Suva rugby games committee.

Committee chair Mitieli Waqa says it was unfortunate to disqualify a team who had been a force to reckon with during the competition rounds.

“So that what affected the Covenant Brothers club they had one player (Iliesa Makasiale) who played other provincial team (Rewa) and they breached the players transfer rules and regulations.”

In the semi-finals this weekend, Army plays Police while Navy takes on Raiwaqa.
