Iliesa Delana’s historic gold medal win in London has prompted bigger plans for Team Fiji’s preparations for Rio 2016.

His achievement now has the Fiji Association of Sports & National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) thinking on a wider scale on how to build a stronger Team Fiji outfit for Rio 2016.

Here’s FASANOC President Vidya Lakhan.

“Those who came close to getting to the finals, we’ve already had discussions with them just to find out their future plans or whether they want to try out for 2016 and we have a fair idea of who wants to.”

Fiji archer – Robert Elder, javelin thrower – Leslie Copeland, shooter – Glen Kable and judoka – Josateki Naulu are such athletes earmarked to compete more overseas.

Lakhan says like Delana who competed in Australia for two months prior to the games, they will advise national federations to look into what events are available next year.

Upon his return Delana and his team will be making a special visit to his team-mate and runner, Lusiana Rogoimuri who was missed the Games after being involved in a car accident a week before leaving for London.
