Defending champions Nadroga makes winning start

Defending senior division champions Nadroga has defeated Seaqaqa 5-2 in its opening match of the Courts Inter District Championship at ANZ Stadium.

Nadroga made a slow start where they trailed 2-1 at half time.

The Stallions then regrouped in the second spell, scoring four goals to seal the victory.

Coach Joseph Nand, says after down by a goal at half time, the players were reminded to strengthen their defensive line.

“We are the defending champions and the idea is to play constructive football and we trailed 2-1 at half time, but I reminded the boys that things can come our way and it happened.”

Seaqaqa coach Sanaila Bera says miscommunication cost them the game.

“Something went wrong in the first half and we were leading by two goals and we stuck to our game plan but misunderstanding within the back line cost us three goals and the boys lost hope.”

In other senior division matches, Navua beat Taveuni 2-1, while Lami is leading Savusavu 3-0.

Rakiraki battles Tailevu Naitasiri at 1pm.

In the Premier Division starting this afternoon, Rewa plays Tavua at 1.30pm, Labasa faces Nasinu at 3.30pm, Suva meets Nadi at 6pm and Lautoka will battle Ba in the last match of day one at 8pm.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will officially open the championship this afternoon at 5.30pm at ANZ Stadium.
