Decline in numbers for netball championship

July 26, 2012 12:57 am

A decline in team registrations for the National Netball Championship next month has forced organisers to host the event over two days.

This was also the case last year and Netball Fiji secretary, Alini Sovu says a lack of finance is the contributing factor for teams.

“The previous years we normally have our tournament for a week. Not many teams have confirmed their participation has decided. To hold this tournament on Friday and Saturday – for the minor and the islands and the major – they will all be playing on those two days."

So far, only five districts have confirmed their participation in the major division while seven will compete in the minor and Island Zone competition.

Organisers are hoping to secure 20 teams with registrations closing on August 10.
