Fiji chess debutant, Sugandha Goswami, is looking forward to her first international tournament in the Oceania Zonal Championships in Australia next month.

Goswami, who works as a hospital lab assistant at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital says she has come a long way since taking up the game as a hobby at the Fiji School of Medicine four years ago.

“When we go into international level, since it’s a zonal, we are expecting really good players from the other Pacific Islands nations as well as Australia and New Zealand. So we would definitely be expecting a tough competition so we really need to prepare well.”
