The Black Caps have won the second and final test against Sri Lanka in Christchurch by a record 423 runs to seal a 1-nil series victory.

Radio NZ reports, Sri Lanka needed another 429 runs for what would have been a world record run chase to win.

However this was the Black Caps test to lose and they quickly got through their work this morning, taking just 12 minutes to wrap up the match.

The winning margin is the largest by any New Zealand test team and the eighth biggest in test cricket history.

It is also New Zealand’s fourth successive test series victory.

The two teams now meet in a three-match one-day series starting next Thursday in Mt Maunganui.
